Minimize the weight to improve fuel economy
With a curb weight of only 1070 kg, the Toyota Verso-S is the lightest car in its segment. Every aspect of the design was developed to further reduce fuel consumption by a minimum weight. The extensive use of lightweight, high strength steel for 45% of self-Body Shop.
The harness is made of aluminum and offer a weight reduction of 30% using a conventional copper. Both front and rear seats were about 11% lighter than comparable cars Toyota makes, and the board compartment cover charge is made of lightweight, environmentally friendly kenaf.
The panoramic sunroof is not part resin bonded to the body to gain even more weight. A Verso-S with the panoramic sunroof fitted weighs only 10 kg more than a classic inside.
1.33 liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine
The gasoline engine with 1.33 liter dual VVT-i (Timing-intelligent variable valve timing), equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and a remarkably high compression ratio of 11.5:1. It produces 73kw / 99 DIN hp at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 125Nm at 4000 rpm and combined with a strong momentum of the fuel economy of first-class CO2 emissions of just 5.5l/100km and 127g/km only.
The engine block is lightweight and compact, with a race of small diameter and long term, leading to a very high power on the weight. It features a cover of resin type cylinder head and intake manifold and intake has been streamlined to maximize air flow for improved combustion efficiency.
The adoption of the cam roller camshaft, oil pump compact and reduce the number of ribs on the auxiliary belt helps minimize engine friction losses and improving fuel economy. And control systems integrated dual VVT-i and EGR was to improve the combustion efficiency.
Dual VVT-i allows the level of response time through the speed range by varying the fuel-air intake and exhaust valve timing, the conditions correspond to shorten any time. In addition to improving the low-end torque and mid-term, the system also reduces emissions and improves fuel efficiency by 2.7% compared to the VVT-i.
EGR reintroduce exact amounts of cooled exhaust gas into the intake. This not only reduces pumping losses by reducing the engine load consumption, but also reduces engine operating temperatures of 40 ˚ C to minimize situations where the fuel enrichment is necessary to protect the catalytic converter damage from overheating. Fuel consumption is improved by 2.4%.
Multidrive S gear
The 1.33-liter gasoline engine is the Toyota transmission Multidrive S option provides the latest Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) technology. With manual operation, sequential, 7-step mode is operated by the shift lever or steering wheel-mounted shifters, continuously variable transmission Multidrive S is the first in the segment.
This compact and lightweight CVT is one of the most economical on the market. Back 5.2l/100km and CO2 emissions of just 120g/km, it delivers better fuel economy and emissions, then the conventional manual transmission.
Multidrive S consists of a pair of pulleys with grooves of varying width, connected by a metal strip. By continuously varying the width of groove – and thus the diameter – the two pulleys, an infinite number of translations to be created.
Multidrive S operates in a transmission ratio higher bandwidth of a conventional transmission, allowing both better acceleration from standstill and improved fuel consumption at cruising speed.
The CVT is the engine of a fluid torque converter with electronic control, oil pressure variable is connected.
A lock-up function physically connects the two parts of the torque converter pump and turbine, effectively changing the converter into a purely mechanical connection without slippage and with virtually no performance loss.
However, torque converter lock-up tends to be high at the sound of train speed low-power resounding through the loss of such vibration damping fluid-based systems to generate.
Multidrive S solves this problem by installing the first Toyota CVT Flex Lock-Up Control. The continuous adjustment of the degree of lock-up in the torque converter, optimized the balance control function of the torque transmission and fuel economy. It allows the engine to maximize fuel efficiency while minimizing vibration, even at low speeds.
Multidrive S “advanced control systems have several new features to improve energy efficiency and improve the driving experience:
When starting from a standing start a new Flex Control reduces the vehicle speed in the torque converter lock is possible from 15 to about 10 kmh. This minimizes torque reduction, produces optimum acceleration from a lower speed for improved fuel economy.
At rest, and increases with deceleration lock-up slip control efficiency free-wheeling by extending the duration of the closed fuel. When the vehicle is in D, a neutral control address minimize transfer time from the engine consumption at rest.
The CVT gear ratio control includes a number of systems, not only to improve fuel efficiency, but also to improve the driving experience. Up / Down change of control uses information from sensors different vehicles to determine if the Toyota Verso-S up or down. When traveling uphill, report changes in speed limit to achieve a smooth operation. When using the brake pedal is detected when driving downhill, the transmission ratio is automatically changed to provide engine braking force adequate.
The commitment of the sport mode of the Multidrive S is a better match of engine speeds and vehicle, resulting in a more linear acceleration feel like a conventional manual transmission. Sport mode improves acceleration performance and rewards the driver a more dynamic driving experience.
Stop & Start system
Verso-S models with the 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i petrol can be equipped with a Stop & Start system. The system can be used in conjunction with the optional S-Drive transmission, the best in their category of fuel consumption 5.0l/100km and CO2 emissions of only 117g/km. This is the first joint implementation of the stop-start and CVT technology.
Equipped with an immediate start with virtually no engine noise or vibration, the system allows a significant reduction in CO2 emissions in the city and fuel consumption can be up to 10% less than 5, depending on driving conditions .
Stop & Start automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is stationary and the clutch pedal – is pressed – or the brake pedal in case of multi-disc S. The engine automatically restarts, in less than half a second even when the pedal is released.
The system of rapid restart is made possible by the use of first gear engaged permanently in the world, in which the starter and the flywheel are connected via a crown, for a one-way clutch. This high performance, reduced engine maintenance without system noise from the cabin and seat vibration.
A boost converter is integrated back into the audio system, meters and computers (Electronic Control Units) of a voltage drop that to protect the electrical load on the starter. The converter increases the voltage supplied to the equipment used to offset the power of the starter.
Now you can activate at temperatures as low as -15 ° C, Toyota Stop & Start technology also for the continued operation of the air conditioner.
Used with the air conditioner, the engine will not, if the desired interior temperature was not reached. If this temperature is reached, the air conditioner to “ECO-run” switch, allowing the engine to stop.
The Verso-S is an improvement of stop-start system has been optimized so that the engine remains off until half a minute more than the race of his predecessors, even with air conditioning.
The engine will automatically start again low battery, or if the vehicle begins to move in the interest of safety.
First class economy and emissions, equipped with DPF
The 1.4-liter D-4D common rail diesel turbo with intercooler uses the latest piezo technology and is equipped as standard with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). It generates 66kW/90 bhp at 3800rpm and torque up to 205Nm at 1800-2800rpm.
Favored by the high injection pressure of 160MPa, the piezoelectric injectors provide more precise volumes of diesel at twice the speed of conventional injectors. Thanks to their high operating speed, they can multiple injections per combustion cycle, optimizing the combustion process provide responsive performance, fuel economy first-class CO2 emissions and 4.3l/100km of 113g / km away.
Many measures have been taken to reduce friction losses and improve the efficiency of diesel fuel. The two stages of the pump oil pressure control oil, the Teflon coating on the front crankshaft seal was applied to reduce belt tension and automatic way to change engine coolant improves engine time warming up.
Fully automatic or manual sequential shift paddles
Available as an option on the diesel versions 1.4 D-4D Toyota Verso-S is an automated multi-mode transmission with a fully automatic mode of travel and without a clutch pedal. It offers the driver a choice between two fully automatic modes or manual gear changes without sequential with paddle shift steering wheel.
Equipped for use with multi-mode transmission, the 1.4 D-4D Verso fuel-S in CO2 emissions and 4.4l/100km a return of 115g/km.
Select E (Economy), M (manual) or R (reverse) allows the car to “creep” in the manner of a conventional automatic. In E-mode allows the automatic shifting car that maximizes fuel economy. The selection of ES (sport) change the method of delay in a higher speed, resulting in a sportier driving style.
For the environment, low-emission driving
Eco driving indicator is included in the cockpit instrument, the Toyota Verso-S models with Multidrive S transmission, help drivers an environmentally friendly, to implement programs of action. Led Eco, Eco Driving indicator light for the operation of the accelerator in the area more economical to light. If the use of the accelerator over the area, the Eco is made of light.
On the manual models, calls for a Gear Shift Indicator, Verso-S driver speeds up or down for maximum energy efficiency. Monitor driving conditions, vehicle speed and the gas inlets, can help the system to the fuel consumption of 0.5 to 3.0%, depending on road conditions.
Front Suspension
A MacPherson strut front suspension system very effective was adopted for its ability to provide a compact, high stability, a consistent, with run-flat minor road vibrations and provide a very entertaining and communicative sense of direction.
Springs, stabilizer spring-damper rates have all been optimized for a flat, smooth ride. The shock absorbers are designed to quickly increase the damping force at low piston speeds – offer a more positive steering feel – like when driving over bumps. In normal piston speeds, provide higher smoother ride quality damping is maintained.
The rear suspension
The Toyota Verso-S has a rear axle torsion bar very efficient and ultra compact. The system has separate springs and dampers, a design that minimizes intrusion into the cargo space, maximizing the usable cargo space.
The lightweight, torsion beam axle very rigid in the production can function as a stabilizer, which minimizes body roll during cornering and ensures excellent agility.
Fuel efficient and environmentally friendly
The Verso-S is the electric power steering (EPS) offers variable assistance for maximum maneuverability, the optimal distribution of weight and feel in an urban environment combined with high speeds.
This advanced system uses electric power only when steering assistance is required. Consequently, it is quieter and produces greater fuel efficiency than the traditional hydraulic power steering. In addition, because it does not use hydraulic fluid, waste oil is not to produce EPS, and is an ecological system.
Brakes and tires
The inclusion of the electronic brake distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, traction control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the Verso-S with ADS and ADS last ADVICE-A2 VP2 systems braking and stability mounted. The new car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes 275mm front and 259mm solid discs and 229mm rear drum brakes.
15 “steel wheels with covers are fully equipped with 185/65R 15 tires, while 16″ alloy wheels fitted with 185/60R 16 tires and are. With shorter braking distances and low rolling resistance tires also reduce fuel consumption, while their reduced vertical stiffness further improves ride comfort.
Minimize wind noise and road within a quiet
The Toyota Verso-S has a variety of measures to reduce wind noise and road, which is in a quiet cabin.
A sound absorbing acoustic windscreen with an inner layer of the film reduces the wind, road and engine noise. Sound insulation was applied to reduce the underside of the bonnet, the underside of the wings and the bonnet liner sector, the transfer of engine and road noise in the cabin.
A defensive front wing cut between the wing and the front pillar on the transmission of sound in the sleeping room. And an underbody protector reduces noise of loose material from the roadway.
Foam materials and rigid insulation foam is introduced in the A-, B-and C-pillars and door headers Cill and to minimize noise transmission through the body. Noise and acoustic insulation materials have been widely used in the cockpit, less noise and vibration, also crop inside the front door pillar, front, rear door and rear side panels opaque headline the roof side trim and carpeting.
Also optimizes the number and arrangement of reinforcements roof, a damper on the head before – combine to help reduce low frequency noise booming – for models with a panoramic sunroof – and a dynamic damper to back door – CVT models.
Meets safety standards
The Verso-S was developed at the highest level of assets, offer standard passive impact and pedestrian safety.
Shockproof body
The new Toyota Verso-S has a high strength but lightweight, shock absorbing body, which produces 45% of high-strength steel. The body was designed to efficiently distribute the front, side and rear impact energy and helps to reduce the cabin deformation.
In frontal impact, energy is led forward by members of the couple on the rocker box and reinforcements. Energy from the upper element is either through a section, as the bulk mixture for distribution to the beltline reinforcement is known, and sent through the strengthening of the pillars for distribution before building roof rail. Stronger quarter window frame prevents excessive deformation of the area before the cabin windows.
Improving the performance side impact, the rocker outer, the middle column of the central column is the upper hinge and outer roof rail reinforcement was made of high strength steel sheet. Side impact beams are ideal for the efficient transfer of the positions of the impact energy. The rocker reinforcements have an internal partition to control the rate of deformation. And pages cantrail employ a fully closed cross section to improve the life considerably.
To strengthen the rear bumper and take a crash box, the energy of a rear impact.
Additional occupant protection is provided by upholstered door panels and bars to reduce pelvic injuries in side collisions. And profiles have been optimized front door armrest and a deformable structure supposed to reduce abdominal injuries in side impacts.
Pedestrian Safety Performance
The Verso-S is equipped with many features to optimize performance of pedestrian protection. Energy absorbing material on the cutting edge to reduce the front bumper reinforcement and the lower end of the collision energy shocks led to a pedestrian crossing the legs. Structure of energy-absorbing hood includes a deformable cover its rear edge. A low-impact structure prevents the lid hinge arm influence on the body in a collision. And front fenders incorporate a shock absorbing structure mounting bracket.
Seven SRS airbags
All Toyota Verso-S versions are equipped as standard with seven SRS airbags, driver and front passenger airbags, driver knee, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
Seat belts 3-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor)
All front and rear seats have three-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts. The ELR is designed to block a seat belt when the excessive load is applied to a preset level. Driver and front passenger seat-belt tensioners and benefit more a function of belt force limiters. In a collision, force limiters to reduce belt tension slightly reduced forces occupying the chest impact.
WIL seats
The Verso-S is to reduce the system Whiplash Protection (WIL) front seats to be mounted in a boost collision. If a rear-end collision occur with sufficient speed, the structure of the seat occupant falling from the upper body back, respecting the movements of the lower body than the head, to reduce whiplash.
ABS, EBD, BA, TRC and VSC + Active Safety Systems
The Toyota Verso-S comes standard with an antilock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control ( VSC +).
EBD works with ABS to ensure that the most effective force braking is applied to each wheel based on road conditions. By preventing the wheels from locking, EBD helps to sure-footed stability during cornering and braking to maintain.
BA acknowledges the need and additional braking power applied if the driver does not apply enough force during emergency braking or brake pressure is too early.
CRT monitors and controls the amount of energy that the road is used by the wheels of the car. If the system determines that one or more wheels is about to pull, they lose immediately to determine the best way to get traction to the wheel again, either by reducing power to the wheel that is sent to turn on itself or, in extreme cases temporary brake on the wheel until it gains traction.
VSC + is designed to prevent loss of vehicle control when entering a turn too fast or slippery conditions, which could lead to a slip. Via sensors monitoring car body speed wheel rotation, brake pressure and nominal drag system stability and the proximity of both understeer or oversteer.
The system provides stability by automatically adjusting engine power and applying the brakes individually modulated smoothly to the respective wheel, and providing support by the pair of electric power steering (EPS) to help the driver entries to the right the stability of the vehicle to restore it.
